What Anti-Racist Teachers Do Differently

( ratings)

The process of teaching is rigorous and even more so when you consider that traditional practices are not built for students of color. Most Black identifying kids turn away from their academic responsibilities not because they are not intelligent or capable but because educators fail to see them. Anti-racist institutions are reflective of educators and administration looking inward and deciphering how the material/teaching methods are impacting students. If lack of academic engagement and attainment is simply explained by overplayed narratives of Black students being less willing to work hard then there is a disservice and minimization of external forces. The success of black students is central to the success of their own teaching.
